Description:
We recently completed this modern family home garden in New Market on Fergus, Co. Clare. The brief was to design and construct a fun, aesthetically pleasing outdoor space for both adults and children to enjoy, including zoned areas for socialising with friends and family and a kids play area.
Limestone Paving
The paving area leading directly off the indoor kitchen space provides an extension to the home, a space people naturally gravitate towards to enjoy al fresco dining or drinks in the Summer months, in this design the patio is partially covered which adds to the practicality of the space. A water feature was added here to bring an additional atmosphere of relaxation.
Raised Planter Beds
To the left of the main outdoor dining space the boundary wall became a focal point of the planting design, incorporating raised planter beds. This allowed the addition of mature tree planting which added instant privacy from neighbouring houses. The trailing ivy covering the walls softened the look and texture of the walling and the shrub selection added colour and interest.
Lawn Preparation and Seeding
No garden is complete without a lush, green lawn. Preparation is key to achieving success here, levelling the surface, topsoil for a fertile base and grading the area for proper drainage.
Artificial Grass
A practical choice when children are using the area often is the installation of an area of artificial grass, no muck or mud and ready to use immediately after a rain shower is a win in Ireland. We added a play area and a sunken trampoline to this area, the perfect place for the kids to play while keeping an eye on them from the patio!
