Bespoke Timber Decking
Outdoor decking is enduringly popular and we have a world of choice for you here at Elm Landscaping and Tree Surgery Services. Working with all forms of timber or composite materials, we construct beautiful and hardwearing decks that will enhance your living space and give many years of pleasure and entertainment.
We will choose materials best suited to your unique setting, needs and budget to craft a decking area you will be proud of. We offer the traditional grooved softwood deck, hardwood timber decking including Ipe and Balau or composite timber decking, which comes in a range of different shades and is low maintenance and anti-slip.
The addition of lights and electrical points mean that your deck can be used all year round and wooden planters, seats and benches can also be worked into your deck design with wonderful effect.
Some of the timber decking features we offer include:
- Steps and handrails
- Storage units
- Timber planters
- Lighting and electrical points
- Integrated seats and benches
- Ramps for wheelchair access
- Raised or multi-height decking
Hardwoods & Softwoods
The hardwood we supply is primarily Bangkarai (Balu) or Iroko. However, other types can be supplied on request. Both Bangkarai and Iroko are highly durable and have a low tendency for warping or splitting. They both also have a grooved surface and are suitable for commercial and domestic use.
Hardwood decks are commonly used on balconies, roof gardens, walkways and pedestrian bridges. Bangkarai is a light to medium brown in colour and turns to a silvery grey colour over time if not painted. Iroko has a distinct yellowish colour and will turn a yellow brown colour as it weathers if not painted. Small pinholes are a typical characteristic caused by insect impingement in the living tree.
The timber used in softwood decking boards is Spruce. It is pressure treated with an EC approved system called Tanalith E which will prevent rot for at least 15 years. It comes with a grooved or smooth surface and is pale green in colour. However, the colour will fade due to weathering if not painted. It is mainly used for domestic decking.
